Day 1. Meet and greet at 8.30 am before setting off west with a brief stop over at the Equator for some photos. We will make our way to Fort Portal and the famous Mountains of the Moon, the Rwenzoris, where we overnight high among the tea estates of the area on the edge of a crater lake.
Day 2. Waking up early you can hope to get a good view of the Mountains of the Moon before we make our way into the chimpanzee forests of Kibale National Park. Get your walking shoes on as we move through bush and jungle to spend time with our fascinating relatives, watching them swing through the trees or move quickly across the ground in front of us. The park is home to 12 species of primate and an incredible array of birdlife, including the Great Blue Turaco. In the afternoon we will take an optional walk through some nearby jungle and swamplands, over board walks put together by a community project and giving a fascinating insight to the wetland community and flora and fauna within. We will again camp next to a crater lake tonight, under the stars.
Day 3. This morning we are greeted with wonderful views of Lakes George and Edward amidst the game filled plains of the Queen Elizabeth II National Park. After a game drive through the park we end the day at Mweya Lodge for a drink while watching the sunset over the Kizinga Channel, home to possibly the highest concentration of hippos in all of Africa.
Day 4. An early start in order to maximise the best time for game watching time of the day. Queen Elizabeth 2nd National Park diverse eco system of savannah plains, tropical forests, rivers, swamps and volcanic crators is home to a staggering variety of wildlife. There are great opportunities to spot lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo, Ugandan Kob, waterbuck to name but a few. In addition there are huge numbers of migratory birds in the area all with the stunning Rwenzori Mountains as a back drop. In the afternoon we take a boat trip down the Kazinga Channel in order to spot the various animals as they come to drink at the water’s edge.
Day 5. Another early start as again head out game driving through the National Park. Today we head south towards the Ishasha area of the park, famous for its tree climbing lions. We camp here for the night.
Day 6. The beautiful Lake Bunyonyi beckons today, with its gorgeous birdlife, dugout canoe trips on the lake, fascinating walks, great bar and relaxing swimming in Uganda’s deepest lake.
Day 7. After this we return to Kampala, with a stop over at Mbarara for lunch, arriving back in the early evening.
